How to Give Your Dog, and Yourself a Restful Night’s Sleep Every Night

How to give your dog, and yourself a restful night’s sleep every night.

If you’re a dog owner who is losing precious sleep, you should seriously consider crate training your puppy or adult dog.

My dog, Lexi, is 13 years old and loves her crate. She will put herself to bed without me saying a word. I won’t hear a peep out of her until I wake her up in the morning.  Whether your dog is young or old, it’s always a good idea to put them outside so they can do their business before going to bed.

If you place the crate where you will be able to hear your pet if they do start to cry,  you’ll be able to tell if they are distressed or just fighting the new sleeping arrangements.  They will calm down.  Just remember, they will not soil where they sleep.

The crate is also perfect for potty training,  your puppies bladder will get stronger and she’ll have more control.

I make the crate as comfortable as possible, with a pillow that completely covers the bottom of the crate and her favorite blanket. I then cover the entire crate with a large towel or blanket. This is probably the most important aspect for your dog to feel safe and secure. It also makes it dark and cozy like a den.  And your puppy can’t see any activity that could agitate her or disrupt her sleep.

Where would you prefer to sleep in your comfy bed in a darkened room or in the middle of a bright room, on display in a cage? Your dog feels the same.

Be sure and read the attached article by the American Kennel Club.   There are a lot more benefits to crate training your dog.  For example: Trips to the veterinarian, recovery after  surgery, emergency situations like evacuation, etc.  Or even for travel by car or by air.  Now wouldn’t you want your precious furry friend to be comfortable and relaxed.  And more importantly feel safe and secure during any of these stressful situations.  I know this would tremendously lower my stress level.
