Your first time in a new field can be daunting. There seems to be so much to do, learning, buying the tools, improving, and the cycle continues. But again, it can be exciting, especially when you have set a goal for yourself.

One of the things you will eventually tackle is the tools you need to start woodworking. They are vital if you want to improve in this area because they are required for practice.

Woodworking is a broad field with many tools, all of which serve one purpose or the other. While we encourage splurging now and then, we suggest getting some or all items on our list first.

Afterward, you can slowly build your collection. But for now, these are the tools you unarguably need:

Table saw

One of the essential tools in woodworking is a table saw. It would be best if you had it to cut the wood into shapes and sizes.

If you have ample space, we recommend a table saw. However, it is expensive and takes up space. But again, the benefits this tool offers far outweigh its downsides. For instance, dust guards, fewer vibrations, and blade adjustment are all endearing features of the table saw.

There are smaller saw options as well.

Chisels

Wood chisels can be used to scrape glue stains off your project, shave rough surfaces, and carve out notches in corners. They are available in diverse shapes and sizes.

You can start with a few chisels and increase your collection with time. To enjoy working with one, ensure you sharpen it before use.

An orbital sander

Your first project may not require a sander, but you would not like to go on without one. There are many polishing and smoothing stages in woodworking, and without an orbital sander, you will have to use sandpaper. Your muscles will get sore if you rely on manual sanding too often.

An orbital sander is also used to roughen surfaces.

Clamps

There are many reasons your woodworking shop will be incomplete without clamps. You can use them to hold the wood while you saw through and hold joints in place while the glue applied dries up.

C-clamps are an excellent choice, but you can also give sliding clamps a shot.

A dust collector

A dust collector is not precisely a vital tool, but it will undoubtedly save you a lot of stress and resources later. It is an excellent way to gather sawdust fast before it does any damage to your lungs.

Safety first, so bite that bullet and get yourself a dust collector. They are relatively affordable and can be purchased new or fairly used.

Router

A router is a power tool, so the most important thing to note is you must handle it with adequate care. It may be a bit intimidating at first, but you will eventually get the hang of it.

You can use it to round table edges, cut inlays, slide dados, etc.
